"The Sakamoto's Rose" by Pier Alfeo is a multimedia sound installation that explores themes of biomimesis, resurgence, and transformation.
The work merges hybrid technological and botanical forms, reflecting contemporary trends of techno-ibridation and hyperconnectivity, where boundaries between organic life and artificial intelligence blur.
The installation raises questions about life in an age of technological reproduction, asking whether mimicking nature through technology leads to loss or rebirth. It reflects the paradox of creating life-like systems detached from the authenticity of natural processes.

The installation features a wooden connected structure, representing a third-order Markov Chain derived from Sakamoto’s "Energy Flow". Using self-developed technology, the artist creates a sonic corpus of 12 speakers that produce a generative composition. The Markov Chain algorithm generates initial sound sequences, which are then re-iterated in real-time. Each new sequence is based on the previous ones, generating unique patterns that continuously evolve. This dynamic process creates a shifting, transforming soundscape.
The sound mirrors the behavior of the Jericho Rose, which enters dormancy and re-blooms when triggered by specific conditions. The work critiques the fusion of organic and artificial worlds, with biomimesis probing the nature of life itself. It questions whether technological reproduction of natural phenomena enriches or diminishes our understanding of existence. The evolving sound composition reflects the tension between regeneration through technology and the loss of experiencing true natural rhythms in an increasingly digital, hyperconnected world. "The Sakamoto's Rose" offers a profound reflection on metamorphosis, highlighting both the beauty and fragility of life in the face of expanding technology.
